The Final Chapter

Friday morning was a major shock to the system. We still struggled to get to sleep last night, so the 5am alarm clock was a rude awakening. We had taken the easy way out and booked a taxi direct from the hotel to the airport. The bonus of the early start was that the roads were empty and we were at the airport by 6:45am, two hours before our flight.  …

Exploring Kuala Lumpur

Wednesday morning started very late for us as the time change had really messed up our body clocks. We woke the kids at 10:30am and sadly missed the hotel breakfast altogether. Finding a suitable breakfast in the shopping mall was no easy task, but we ended up at Starbucks. That kept the wolf from the door, then we got some more breakfast supplies at the supermarket in the shopping centre basement.…

Batu Caves and Other Adventures

We didn't make the mistake of sleeping too late twice. On Thursday the alarm was set for 8am and we got to enjoy the nice buffet breakfast. The hotel is nice and in a great location, but we feel very much in the minority. We were the only Western faces at breakfast. The majority of guests would be from Iran and the Middle East. As promised, we set off after breakfast…

Goodbye Europe, Hello Asia

It's amazing what a closed window can do for quieting those tower bells! We slept right through the night until the alarm clock disturbed us at 6am. We were on the road by 7am as we had 190km to drive to Frankfurt and were due to return Pierre to the Holiday Inn Express at 9am. We hit some roadworks and heavy traffic around Frankfurt (Monday morning rush hour in the drizzle),…

Legoland Part II

The kids were up bright and early on Friday, keen for another day at Legoland. They had worked out a strategy to maximize rides. Gates opened at 10am. Dad's job was to take them straight to the very popular Ninjago ride in the hope that the queue would be short. Mum's job was to rent a Q-Bot for the day to maximize rides. The weather forecast wasn't great, so we were…

Last Stop in Europe

On Saturday morning, we finished our Legoland experience with a round of mini golf at the Feriendorf and a round of play grounds for the kids. We could have whizzed to our last destination in about an hour on the autobahn, but took our time driving on the Romantic Road. It's lovely countryside, punctuated by small towns with a sea of red roofs that got progressively cuter the further north we…

Last Day in Europe – Boo Hoo….

Sunday was our last full day in Europe. We need to be up early tomorrow to return Pierre and catch the 9:30 shuttle bus to Frankfurt Airport. We had a practice run today for early rising, thanks to the bells of the nearby tower on the walls. They ring every 15 minutes, day and night! We didn't realise our bedroom window was open which made the bells even louder. Rothenburg was…
